HOW TO STAY YOUNGER LONGER...

Aunty practices an ancient Chineese healing art

Aunty is taking this Ageless Blog seriously. She eats her blueberries every morning, sips her green tea all day, she walks and sings, says her prayers before bed, and  now she does qi-gong. Here she is after two different classes.
The instructor always comments on “Aunty’s  great energy!” I am inspired. To see my great Aunty so happy and vibrant at this advanced age, gives us all hope.
I realize much of Aunty’s joy is a direct result of my devotion. A major part of my every day existence is to continue giving Aunty a good quality of life. The difference I have made, and continue to make in my Aunty’s life is paramount.  I strongly suggest to anyone dealing with a friend, neighbor, or family member who is elderly….please spend some time with them. Any time counts. It could be a phone call, a short visit, or an overnight stay. I can assure you, the elder you tend to will see it as an eternity.  I know my Aunty would be staring at four walls and crying a lot if I had not stepped in.  The ONLY reason I say any of this is to show others how much happiness you can generate just by giving a little of yourself to someone in need. It is worth repeating >ANY TIME COUNTS A LOT! Even a few minutes  of your time can make a difference in an elderly persons day.
Tomorrow I take Aunty to the beach. I will bring my work, pack her Enquirer, Ice-Tea, and sunblock. With a little effort and creativity I have this care giving down to a science. Many of you have asked if I will write a book about my life and time with Aunty…. Most assuredly, YES!  With over seven years of care giving under my belt, and still going strong, I have a lot to share. And, since our Ageless Aunty truly is the epitome of selfless humility… I know that doing anything that will benefit others is what she wants me to do.  When the time comes to write my care giving story, it will be a continuation of her legacy.  And her legacy  is simple….Aunty Helen (and Nana Helen to some) has always put others first. She is the embodiment of LOVE in its purest form.  She is the quintessential (family)care giver.

Aunty has always had an open and forgiving heart, even when others have not! I call her Mother Teresa in high-heels. Let her be an inspiration for you too. Thanks for following Ageless.
A lot of good energy comming at you
Does anyone know what number sunscreen I should put on Aunty?

TWO WISE MEN AND THREE BRAZIL NUTS...

Saturday, I went to hear two wise men speak, and was handed wisdom on a silver platter. And, just now, I got the clear and distinct message that; it’s all in what I do with that gift. I can look at my notes, think about what I heard, or I can actually start making better choices and paying more attention to how I am living each day, each moment, and become even more aware of how every morsel of what goes into my mouth counts, and has an enormous effect on my health and how I feel.

One of the speakers was Larry Rosenberg, my meditation guru. He happens to be the wisest person I have ever met. I could listen to him speak for hours. I call Larry my Dalai Lama. He injects humor with his wisdom, and he says profound things in simple ways, like “Pay attention to the way you are actually living, with the emphasis on the actually.” He founded the Cambridge Insight Meditation Center…a place that has helped me make significant changes in my life. By guiding me as I cultivate a meditation practice, CIMC is helping me build a sturdy surfboard to ride the waves of life. I start to see things more clearly just walking the path to their door. My feelings are, just about everyone will reap enormous benefits (much more than you can imagine) with a meditation practice. And, one of the things Larry stressed on Saturday was that life itself is practice. There is just as much wisdom and beauty standing in line at the grocery store, or in your personal relationships, as there is on the cushion. Life is practice!

Paul Schulick, a friend of Larry’s, is a master herbalist, founder, and chief formulator of products for NEWCHAPTER Supplements. NEWCHAPTER has been a pioneer in bringing together the wisdom of nature and cutting edge scientific technology. Having tried Paul’s impeccable products, I can assure you it’s true.

These two wise men talked about becoming whole through meditation and by carefully selecting what goes into your body. When you eat well, and take proper supplements, you are more relaxed and in a better state to receive any of the benefits of meditation. And when you meditate you are more aware of what does go into your system. It all works to your benefit. According to them, it’s all about deepening and refining our practice, our life. What could be better than that? And, by taking better care of our bodies and minds now, we have a better chance of reducing the pains of old age!

Because these two wonderful men have so much to offer, I highly recommend Larry’s Books

• L. Rosenberg, Breath by Breath: The Liberating Practice of Insight Meditation, Shambhala Publications, 2004. ISBN 1590301366.

• L. Rosenberg and D. Guy, In the Light of Death: On the Art of Being Truly Alive, Shambhala Publications, 2001. ISBN 1570628203

And, Paul’s superior products http://www.newchapter.com/.

One thing that Paul said is he eats three Brazil nuts a day. It may sound funny but, I looked it up and, these nuts are extremely nutrient-rich and contain protein, copper, niacin, magnesium, fiber, vitamin E and selenium. Selenium is a powerful antioxidant that works to neutralize dangerous free radicals. A study at the University of Illinois even found that the high amounts of selenium in Brazil nuts may help prevent breast cancer. But, use in moderation, a handful at a time.

To bring this all together, Paul also recommended Qigong, a wonderful form of martial arts I have suggested throughout this blog. I was tickled too, to know that Larry drinks Rishi tea. You know how much I LOVE that product. Practice wise action and order some Dragon Well or White Peony now…. sip, meditate, and blossom!

Sat Nam

Mantra Mama

As promised, my great Ageless Aunty will be appearing on this site soon….
But first I want to share some magic words that have helped me to de-stress, de-age, and delight….*Sat Nam* pronounced saaht--nam….it means I bow to my higher self, truth, God! I first learned this profound mantra in Kundalini Yoga. Practicing Kundalini Yoga in my opinion is one guaranteed path to Agelessness. Everything about this practice promotes joy, unlike anything else I have ever experienced. We chant, we dance, we sing, we move, and we meditate, opening up our hearts, elevating our spirit, and somehow that inner peace and happiness that was there long ago, miraculously emerges. Bliss is possible with Kundalini Yoga, and it remains one of my favorite ways to stay Ageless.

Recently, when I started thinking about putting this blog together, I was experiencing major stress factors in my life, on all levels, and things were mounting. I wanted to add something to my Kundalini Yoga practice and I signed up for stress reduction class (that in itself is an Ageless thing to do). The course happens to be about Qigong. I am new to this ancient energy practice but I can already say…it is miraculous. You can feel it activate the body’s natural healing ability. I call it Feng shui for the psyche because as you breathe you can feel the flow. I went in feeling overwhelmed and came out feeling fully alive and let the problems roll off of me. You can look up Qi-Gong online, and I will be talking more about it as I get deeper into the practice. Our instructor gave us a CD to take home to help learn the movement flow. The voice on the disc is a calming and loving Chinese man walking you through this energy practice. As he stops at each part of the body he says things like… “illuminate the heart. Heart I love you.” I felt so relaxed and calm during the class, and more important afterwards. The instructor (a doctor) promises that many of his students have had amazing results from doing this work. I can promise you too, it is worth a try! Ten million people around the world are glowing from practicing Qigong…I am glad I am now one of them. If you clear out all the negative energy you make room for positive vibrations to get working. And picture how positive energy looks on you. Think of how you felt on a really good day in your life. Follow this blog and I can assure you that many more ways as to how we can uplift ourselves will appear. Slowly we become the embodiment of Agelessness…breath by breath, vertebrae by vertebrae…it is possible. Ahh….
Sat Nam…..
