SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER...

Jump out of your winter doldrums….

Like George Harrison sang, in Here Comes the Sun, Little Darling, It’s been a long cold lonely winter

We hear you, Mr. Beatle… If one more person tells me they have the winter blahs, I might just fly away. But, who can’t relate, even a little bit. This winter has been a rough one, and it’s not over yet.

Here at Ageless, no matter the weather, we pull ourselves up by the bootstraps and get out and have some fun. As much as I love the snow, I was tired of all the shoveling and that occasional closed in feeling. With Aunty here, I can’t just run outside when it snows and make snow angels. She likes me inside with her. At times I felt stuck. So, last Saturday night, I got a small group together, and we headed out to Donkey Show, the ultimate disco experience. Everyone in our party, especially those who say they don’t dance, had a ball.

Is it really two degrees outside?  I wish Travolta could see me now.

We laughed, joked, jumped, hooted, and hollered. Sure, it was freezing outside, but I knew I couldn’t take another night in the house! You’ll be amazed what happens when you make a little effort. I know it takes a bit of doing to get people together, but, even if it’s just two, do something fun for no reason at all. Or, just to get one up on old man winter! My family and I heated things up on that frigid night. When was the last time the words, I had a terrific time, came out of your mouth? You are the only one who can transform another Saturday night on the couch into exhilaration. If you want to, that is.

A friend suggested I throw a Glad to be Alive Party. Can anyone put me in touch with Snoop? Since he rapped for the Mitch-A-Palooza Freedom Festival in the film Old School, (remember that great scene) why not Renee-A-Palooza?! Come on now and sing it to me...

THE WORLD IS OUR STAGE

I make a habit of living fully in the moment and luckily it’s paying off. I call this blog Ageless because, aunty and I have been fortunate to have a great deal of love in our life, and take good care of each other. Our clean living is paying off. No one has ever guessed our actual age. The fact that I have my trademark chutzpah helps too. I don’t hear no. I never sit in the back row. I always find my way to the front and often backstage. In this case, on the stage! At a recent performance of the Donkey Show, I was so in the moment, the music and the setting just lifted me into the realm of pure fun. At one point, I jumped on stage and started dancing with one of the characters from this fantastical piece of live theatre!

We all know there is more than enough pain and suffering around us. Any chance we get to create, or dive into pure unadalatured fun… I say we should embrace it head on. Don’t just go though the motions > Star in your own life! There is plenty of room up here for you. The world is your stage too. Don’t let me (and the guy in the bikini) have all the fun.

IT'S ONE WAY TO GET NOTICED...

But Don't Try This at Home

The intoxicating international sensation Donkey Show creates a splash on the cultural scene. The best way to describe this theatrical romp is to say it is Shakespeare meets Studio 54. It’s a wild reinvention of Shakespeare’s A Mid Summer’s Night Dream (a complex farce about the mis-adventures of love). This outrageous presentation stretches all boundaries of theater…and is so much fun!

However we describe it, when I look at this picture from the show, and think of all I am up against as a writer who wants to get published, I consider for a moment, dressing up in glitter, wearing sequin hot pants, and maneuvering something like this on Aunty’s clothes lines. You have to admit, it’s one way to get noticed.

Then I think, no, Aunty should dress up in one of her boas and I will put her in roller skates or on a surf board, while she reads my manuscript aloud…. (take my word for it, it’s not easy to get published these days). One must do whatever it takes to get attention.

Eventually I come to my senses and face reality. I say… this might be “twenty-ten,” and Twitter, Facebook, Blogging, and selfless promotion are required of writers, above and beyond all the time and dedication it takes to simply write the books, but, there is still only one real way to get noticed, and that is through good old fashion hard work.

So, I bid you farewell for the weekend. It may be Saturday, but I am a writer who wants to get published. Communing at my computer until my eyes burn and my hands ache, while my mind stays focused….. That is what will eventually get me published. (Sequin hot pants, on aunty or me, will only get us so far). It’s the work I do that warrants eye drops and wrist braces that will draw recognition.

See Donkey Show if you dare. It’s been extended till August 2010…
