a glimpse of splenor
I arrived frazzled on Martha’s Vineyard. The cab driver was stoned. He drove out to the middle of the island complaining the entire time that there were only two people in his cab. He seemed confused as we reached an intersection of unpaved roads. We had given him an address, but he still could not find our destination. He yelled at my friend and me when we suggested he might take a right by the chickens crossing the road.
He and his taxi started over heating. We hit some rocks. He cursed. In the distance I noticed a small house with clothes hanging on the line out front. I honestly did not think this was it, but, since our plans were all last minute and it was the single busiest week of the summer, maybe we really would be staying in someone’s laundry room.
In need of serious rest and relaxation, at first I didn’t want to go into whatever kind of lodge this was. But, we did not have much of a choice. So I dragged in my two large bags for one night stay.
To calm my nerves, I decided to step out back for some fresh air. Suddenly it felt like the scene in the Wizard of Oz, when things change from black and white to color. I opened the back door and beheld a stupendous nature sanctuary and a view that rivals the top of the world. It was lovelier than anything I had ever experienced...there were birds, butterflies, an ocean and ponds. As she pointed to the house across from us, the host told me, “That’s where the president is staying.” As it turns out, I had the exact view as the First Family.
All I can say to that is….Out front the laundry, out back Obama! My friend laughed and said, “Only you, Renee, could bypass the presidential suite for the presidential retreat!”
Since this is a positive, happy, upbeat blog….naturally, things only got better ….
But, I will have to save the rest of the story for later. I must take some time to prepare my book proposal for the agent. This blog (not me) will be on vacation for at least a week. I promise to share more of what I am calling …. I’ll See What he’s Seeing, as soon as I can. I will tell you that I did not meet the president, but I got pretty close.
In the mean time please keep enjoying your summer~ it’s not over yet…When you allow yourself to fully breathe into the universe, magic happens.
