LAUGH OFTEN...

                                                       living the blog...

Because I followed the advice from my last blog post about keeping an open mind, I found myself on the set of a local cable TV station promoting Laughter Yoga.
When they first asked me to be in the video I was sad thinking about Aunty. She would have been an ideal candidate for Laughter Yoga. And, had she been around I would have brought her with me. Yet, I was open enough to my own healing and to continue as best I could with living my life to the fullest. I know that a good way to honor Aunty is by being like her. And, Aunty was as happy and genuine as any human could be. She had mastered the art of wholehearted living and giving.

So, with the wings of Angel Aunty nudging me, I showed up on the set to help my friends promote this healthy practice. Before I knew it I was laughing and unleashing my inner child with abandon. Afterwards, as seen in the photo above, I felt lighter, and less stressed. There really is something to this Laughter Yoga. Laughter is uplifting no matter how down you think you might be. How can you be sad when the corners of your mouth are pointing to heaven?

Here I am (above)with Bill and Linda of Let's Laugh Today http://www.letslaughtoday.com/ and Helen Chin Lui of the Healing Place
http://www.healingplacemedfield.com/

A smile is free, easy, and ageless. And, in my case it's a way to honor Aunty.  The shirt I am wearing here says LAUGH OFTEN. It was a gift. I  am convinced it's a message from Aunty.  She wants me to smile. She wants you to smile too. Here's one of her favorite pictures for proof.

AGELESS SUMMER...

Always reaching for the sky...
There is still plenty of summer left for those who see it that wayJ  And, here are 5 ways to keep it Ageless….
Go outdoors and hear some live music. Yesterday, I attended the Newport Jazz Festival and it was worth every penny, and the effort to get there (including a short and choppy boat ride). The artists are from all over the world. The vibe is laid-back and cool, and the eclectic crowd is always interesting. I meet music lovers from all over the country. Sometimes I think it's the only time I fully relax all year! And boy do I need that. There's nothing like live music to make a summer's day/night even better.
with friends at JVC Jazzfest

Get to a beach! I didn't realize what an injustice I was doing to myself by not going to the beach during the summers of 2001 to 2009. For one reason or another I made excuses, didn't have the time, did not want the sun exposure, and did not want to make the effort to pack my car. However when I started going to the beach again (covered in sunscreen) what sheer delight. I think it's the single most de-stressing thing we can do. It's pure fun and pleasure. And what adult in this new millennium can't use some of that? I urge all the followers of Ageless to please get to a beach at least once this summer.

Make yourself a St. Germain Cocktail. IN THE foothills of the Alps, for but a few fleeting spring weeks, men will gather wild blossoms for your cocktail. The blossoms in question are elderflowers, and the cocktail a stylishly simple creation made with St-Germain, the first liqueur in the world created in the artisanal French manner from freshly handpicked elderflower blossoms. It’s tantalizing if you ask me.

Brew up some lavender ice-tea (one variation above). I am a lavender fanatic. There are many great products on the market that really make good use of this relaxing plant. But, my favorite is my own homemade lavender ice tea. Just buy some organic lavender flowers from Whole Foods (they come in a little tea box) and put a tablespoon or two into a pot of boiling water. After ten minutes, strain the tea, and add some raw, organic honey and let it cool. Put it in a pretty pitcher and add ice. It’s that simple. When I bring this summery concoction to parties or serve to guests, people always ask for more.

What is summer without a good book? I am reading two, and they are equally fantastic. I would like to suggest Roland Merullo’s The Talk Funny Girl, and Tich Nhat Hanh's and Dr. Lilian Cheung's Savor. The former is a great novel, and the latter is a wise and mindful book about eating and enjoying food.  I know you will enjoy them both. Take a good book to the beach with a batch from scratch of ice-tea. Bring your laptop too so you can read Ageless with Aunty from the balmy shore, with the sand between your toes and lavender on your lips. How apropos….

Hug the Ageless Aunty in your life and every day will be summer

HOW TO STAY YOUNGER LONGER...

Aunty practices an ancient Chineese healing art

Aunty is taking this Ageless Blog seriously. She eats her blueberries every morning, sips her green tea all day, she walks and sings, says her prayers before bed, and  now she does qi-gong. Here she is after two different classes.
The instructor always comments on “Aunty’s  great energy!” I am inspired. To see my great Aunty so happy and vibrant at this advanced age, gives us all hope.
I realize much of Aunty’s joy is a direct result of my devotion. A major part of my every day existence is to continue giving Aunty a good quality of life. The difference I have made, and continue to make in my Aunty’s life is paramount.  I strongly suggest to anyone dealing with a friend, neighbor, or family member who is elderly….please spend some time with them. Any time counts. It could be a phone call, a short visit, or an overnight stay. I can assure you, the elder you tend to will see it as an eternity.  I know my Aunty would be staring at four walls and crying a lot if I had not stepped in.  The ONLY reason I say any of this is to show others how much happiness you can generate just by giving a little of yourself to someone in need. It is worth repeating >ANY TIME COUNTS A LOT! Even a few minutes  of your time can make a difference in an elderly persons day.
Tomorrow I take Aunty to the beach. I will bring my work, pack her Enquirer, Ice-Tea, and sunblock. With a little effort and creativity I have this care giving down to a science. Many of you have asked if I will write a book about my life and time with Aunty…. Most assuredly, YES!  With over seven years of care giving under my belt, and still going strong, I have a lot to share. And, since our Ageless Aunty truly is the epitome of selfless humility… I know that doing anything that will benefit others is what she wants me to do.  When the time comes to write my care giving story, it will be a continuation of her legacy.  And her legacy  is simple….Aunty Helen (and Nana Helen to some) has always put others first. She is the embodiment of LOVE in its purest form.  She is the quintessential (family)care giver.

Aunty has always had an open and forgiving heart, even when others have not! I call her Mother Teresa in high-heels. Let her be an inspiration for you too. Thanks for following Ageless.
A lot of good energy comming at you
Does anyone know what number sunscreen I should put on Aunty?

Look up the benefits of qigong…. It’s a potent way to stay young… www.qigonginstitute.org
In the Metro West of Boston area I have a friend who teaches qigong. His name is Alan. You can find him at akrentz@comcast.net or www.rootsandwingshealingarts.com

HOW TO STAY YOUNG!

Our resident Ageless Guru…aka Aunty may be almost ninety years young, but she still knows how to kick up her heels and have fun. Friday night, she turned a night of dining into a night at the disco!

My family and I were having a nice quiet dinner, enjoying some fine wine and conversation. On our way out, Aunty dragged us into the adjacent club for some dancing. “I love to dance,” she declared, as she started moving her hips and pulling us into the joint as soon as she heard the music.

She was flirting with the singer; she danced with the waitress, and made friends with the guys next to us. Before we knew it she got the entire room on its feet. What a sight to see; her happy spirit doing what it does best…making others happy.

How does she stay so vibrant being only a decade away from 100? I think the blueberries, the omegas, and all the green tea I give her help. I also supply her with daily doses of hugs and kisses. And, Aunty does go into the stratosphere of super-happiness when she is around her family! But, most important….she DOES follow the blog Ageless with Aunty. Judging by these pictures and Aunty’s advanced age, I dare say, I think the potent mixture of all of the above is working! She continues to inspire me, and everyone who meets her.

look at that childlike grin on Aunty

For the record, I had to literally pull her out of the place because she would not stop dancing! I was worried  she might not be able to move the next day. I am glad to report....Aunty is alive and kicking! We started our day today listening to Frank Sinatra's You Make Me Feel so Young! And then we danced...

PICK UP YOUR FORK AND FORGO THE KNIFE...

Can you keep a youthful radiance without plastic surgery?

I believe anyone can stay young looking for as long as they want. My dear Aunty is 87, and she has never had even a stitch of plastic surgery. She not only glows, but is truly stunning.

Everywhere, people continue to look outside of themselves for the answers. I think it’s a wise person who knows instinctively, that good health and real beauty come from within. I feel so lucky and ageless to have been blessed with the realization that if you go within you will never go without! And, you won’t need plastic surgery.

To avoid the knife, put foods like kale and salmon on your fork, and, buy a good mattress. From what I can see, anyone, regardless of their age, who does some form of exercise daily, avoids alcohol, or uses it only in moderation, enjoys their work, gets along with their family, feels a sense of connection to others, drinks plenty of fresh water, eats an abundance of green foods, a colorful, balanced diet, is grateful for what they have, and gets at least seven hours sleep, will glow! Generally speaking, a person who nurtures him or herself like this should not need plastic surgery. Also, doing things that boost your confidence, and helping others, is a much safer way to feel better about yourself, and yields longer lasting results than any “procedure.”

I make a split second appearance in this video

I look up to and admire the renowned Kundalini Yoga guru, Gurmukh. She is Ageless, and I know why. She is a perfect example of everything I mention, and then some. She gets up before dawn every morning in praise and thanksgiving. Due to the joy of movement, many yoga teachers and dance instructors look much younger than they are. Happy People look better too, and those in good relationships ooze youth. Julia Roberts had a good take on this when she said, “The secret to beauty is to always be looking at someone who loves you.”

Next time you think you might want to consider any plastic surgery, try changing your job, what’s on your plate, how you move your feet, and what you put on your face. A good quality skin care regime can go a long way too, like a good multi-vitamin. High quality natural products, with soothing aromas, do something for the senses that I believe has a cumulative effect. Investing in a good face cream is worth it. And sip plenty of green tea…Rishi's Organic is choice. http://www.rishitea.com/

NEW YORK NIGHTLIFE (a reservation at RdV)

Like John Legend before me!

After my last blog post about my taste for the good life, I accepted an invitation to a party in New York. I may not travel a lot these days, but, a party in New York City makes up for all those walks along the Seine, and any al fresco dining in Tuscany, I am missing out on. Well, not really, but, you know what I mean.

A friend of mine was throwing a party for one of his big number birthdays. He rented out the New York hot spot RdV. According to the news, John Legend was definitely living it up at his 32nd birthday bash Wednesday at New York City hotspot RdV, where he celebrated with celeb pals, including Ne-Yo, Estelle, and even 'Jersey Shore' star Pauly D. And I can see why. The place is super cool. I loved it from the moment I waltzed in.

Sure, my white coat had a few dirt spots, and my diamonds were fake, but, the feeling of exhilaration I had being part of Big Apple nightlife (my old stomping ground) was Real. It was terrific.

Just imagine, standing in the middle of the dance floor, surrounded by all the pretty people, sipping champagne, and dancing to outrageously good songs like Slipping into Darkness, by War, and Gil Scott-Heron’s, In the Bottle. When Tower of Power’s, Down to the Nightclub came on, I got everyone on the floor and we lived out the song!

All I had hinted at in a few previous posts was that I would love a fun night on the town, and next thing I know, I am in New York City’s Meat Packing District partying like it was 1999! Stay on this blog, and let’s keep living the good life as best we can.

One of the party guests, who had not seen me in ten years, declared… “Renee, you have not aged one bit since I last saw you!” I don’t know about you, but, I am staying with this blog. It works.

If you can’t get to New York, and you don’t want to go out in the cold, turn on any of the songs mentioned here. You’ll warm right up, get the urge to dance, and rid yourself of any winter blues.

YELLOW-BRICK UGGS

One pair is mine

Right before Christmas, a dear friend asked me what I wanted for a gift. Off the top of my head, all I could think of was a gift certificate to Barnes and Noble or Whole Foods. She didn’t like that idea, and said she wanted to buy me an actual present. She asked what I really wanted. Since she is pretty generous, I told her a pair of Ugg slippers was high on my wish list, and that I had wanted a pair for a long time.

Being so busy, the next day, when a box arrived in the mail, I did not make the connection to my friend. I had no idea who the package was from or what was inside. I let it sit in my hallway for a few days. When I did open it, there was a pair of those super fine Santa Ugg Boots that I had just blogged about. They were utterly fabulous.

When I called to thank my pal she told me, “I figured you really wanted those boots and not the slippers.” That was not necessarily true. But, once I stepped into those boots I just flipped for them. I love the fun style and all that fluffy fur. The boots turned out to be a perfect gift. They are so comfortable, I hardly take them off. They also made me realize the power of my blog! No one would have ever known I desired that particular fashion item unless they were looking at my blog. People are reading it. That’s the best gift of all!

Maybe if I click my heels together three times, I will end up smack dab in the middle of a lucrative book deal. Especially if I do the clicking in these boots, on this blog… where magic continues to flow…..

Has there been any magic in your life lately? Keep reading and there will be. Or get yourself a pair of Uggs. These things are so cozy you will find yourself slipping into a fantastical state of bliss. I think every pair of Uggs comes with their own little (imaginary)Yellow-Brick Road. To prove this might be true...these boots now come in sparkling sequin. http://www.uggaustrailia.com/

By the way, my sister wants you to know…she had the Dior-looking Uggs first.

AGELESS with AUNTY HITS VERMONT...

Brittany & Emma

There is always a reason to visit Vermont. For me, it's an obvious one, my darling niece Brittany.

She moved there last year and loves it. She wants me to move there too, and knows I have considered it. I  enjoy cross country skiing, Green Mountain Coffee, and fresh air.
Good Vibrations by Lake Champlain

Brittany doesn't know this yet, but, during my next visit, I am going to crash one of her college parties. I never partied (ever) while I was getting my degree. So, I have this urge to live out the scene in Old School, where Mitch has a party and Snoop Dog shows up to rap! I can rap too!

Life is what you make it! Take it. Shake it. Sit by the Lake-it! Awake-it. Partake it!

Gee, I hope there is a frat party in my future....

While in Vermont, visit the Dobra Tea house. It's exotic (you can't tell this from the web) and delightful. Just one of the many hidden cool spots in the Green Mountain State.

BTW, Emma the toy puppy pictured above, was just one of the sites we saw at Shelburne Vineyard wine tasting. She fit into one of the goblets.

HERE'S LOOKING AT YOU, AUNTY...

Aunty's mirror says....We are always the same age inside...

Don't you think Aunty looks marvelous for almost ninety ageless years!
She tells me, it's all those red apples, green tea, and living out our blog, Ageless with Aunty.

JOHN LENNON and JULIA ROBERTS

John Lennon said....All You Need is Love! In my Glow with the Flow post Julia Roberts said the secret to beauty is to always be looking at someone who loves you! Aunty and I live it every moment of every day. The love we share, protects us, nourishes us, strengthens us, and keeps us ageless...

We send our love and gratitude to you, our readers. Thanks for being part of our journey.

Behind the blog, some might say, with aunty's dementia and our non-existent financial security, that our life is pretty scary. As you can see here, and throughout this blog, that is not the case. We live in the light, and believe in the goodness of others and our own unlimited potential. It's a wonderful life.

I can say LOVE IS MIRACULOUS because I have the pictures to prove it.

To get more love, you have to give some away.

THE AUNTY TREE

Yes, that's my niece with Steven Tyler

The apple doesn’t fall too far from the Aunty tree…

It looks like my nieces took heed to my post  Ageless with Aunty, the Next Generation.

Here is my adorable niece Montana, with none other than Steven Tyler from Aerosmith, and the new American Idol judge!

Since she is gearing up to someday take over this blog, Montana wants to be happy, and meet as many celebs as she can, “Just like Aunty Renee.”

While at the Bruins Game (where she met Mr. Tyler) my other niece Jesse, was dancing on the ice as a Bruins Girl! They are just keeping up Gold Girl tradition while paving the way for the future of Ageless with Aunty.

AGELESS TIP OF THE WEEK:

AGELESS WITH AUNTY...THE NEXT GENERATION...

From the looks of things this blog could go on forever…

But, whoever thought I would be the “Aunty?!”

Here I am with my niece Madison Rose who was just voted President of the National Honor Society at her high-school.

She is smart… and she reads my blog. She loves saying… “I’m ageless with Aunty!”

What’s interesting is the age difference between Madison and me is the same as the age difference between Aunty and me.

So, if Madison Rose, and my seven other nieces, nephews, and young cousins keep eating their kale, and blueberries, and drinking their pomegranate juice, one day I will hand over the pen and the camera to one of them. Ageless with Aunty will live on. Except, in the next generation… I will be the Aunty! For now, I am having a great deal of fun playing the “Ageless” role. It’s a part I hope to play indefinitely!

AGELESS ANGIE...

A rock and roll mama

There is a new ageless wonder on the blog…

The decked out doll in the zebra print is Ageless Angie. Her son, Johnny A, is a guitar virtuoso. This makes Angie a real rock and roll mother! And she is quite stunning. At 77 years young, she dances, runs a pub, goes to gigs, and is still making new friends. Now that's Ageless.

She tells me “If I keep reading your blog, I’ll never get old!” My sentiments exactly.

Diddyboppin

To learn more about Angie’s super talented son, including where he is playing next, go to http://www.johnnya.com/

They say, Johnny A. has one of the most eloquent voices in modern music - and he doesn't sing a note. Instead, he channels joy, love, humor, sadness... every aspect of the human experience, through his guitar.

THIS BLOG WORKS!

The One and Only, Ageless Aunty~

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, well look at this one and tell me what it says to you. I see it as Ageless with Aunty is working. Everything I suggest on this blog, from eating apples, to drinking green tea, and dancing with enthusiasm just because… well, it’s apparently working for Aunty. She follows, and lives this blog and I am delighted with the way she looks and feels. Could she actually be getting younger? I am also seeing the imperative role a good attitude plays in the aging game. The fact that she is always happy yields better results than any face lift would.

Someone said to me the other day… “I hope I look half as good as Aunty does when I am 86.” With this picture in mind, I can say…Follow our blog and you will~

As promised, vacation stories coming soon, and for anyone who might be wondering what ever happened with my TV audition for Oprah’s new reality show… I was not selected as a finalist. I am okay with that. I honestly didn’t think I would be (my audition was not properly prepared or polished) but, I did enjoy the process, and I have that lovely little interview with Aunty to cherish. You can still see that footage on my Facebook Page, just scroll down on the left and hit the video link.

Coming Soon, a YouTube video of Ageless Aunty in action. Betty White may have some serious competition! In Aunty’s own words… “Watch Out.”

YOUNGER NEXT YEAR...

I ALWAYS dreamed someone would give me the secrets to staying young and healthy. Well... I got my wish. I may not ever look like this again (this is me at 22) but, I know if I follow what is presented here, a year from today I will not look any older than I do right now. As a matter of fact, I might even look younger! ... That's pretty cool if you ask me.

Thanks to Chris Crowley, co-author, with Dr. Henry S. Lodge, of the Younger Next Year books, here is  solid advice for keeping youthfully vigorous.

1) Exercise six days a week for the rest of your life.

2) Do serious aerobic exercise four days a week for the rest of your life.

3) Do serious strength training, with weights, two days a week for the rest of your life.

4) Spend less than you make.

5) Quit eating junk.

6) Care.

7) Connect and commit.

You could put numbers 6 and 7 into practice right now by simply hitting the follow button on the right. You would be helping Aunty and I by saying that you like our blog. There are no strings attached, and no one,  will get your email. Honest. It is simply a nice thing to do because we work hard to entertain you, and hopefully help to keep you inspired and feeling good.

I would like to add a number eight... Take a break.... With that I am leaving for a few days to a much needed, long over due (by ten years) vacation. I will be back soon with some great stories to blog about. I miss my readers already..... please leave me some comments below about your vacation highlights, or one particular vacation that stands out... we can compare notes when  I return. And, let me know what you think of the health tips listed above...

Love,
Renee & Ageless Aunty~
